Supported datalog formats

You never have to tell Overtrace what kind of file you're loading. Drop a datalog in and it recognizes the format automatically, then plots the channels for you. These are the formats it supports today, with more on the way.

Caterpillar

Caterpillar engine and controller datalogs are supported directly. Channel names and units come through automatically, and on/off state signals are shown as event flags on the chart. Caterpillar logs are read on an elapsed-time axis.

Waukesha

Waukesha engine datalogs are supported directly, on a real clock-time axis. Both measured channels and state signals come through automatically.

Emit (Dynamic Controls)

Emit panel datalogs are supported, whether exported as CSV or Excel. Channels are detected and plotted for you.

Excel & CSV

Any spreadsheet-style datalog works too. If your file has a time column and one or more numeric value columns, Overtrace can plot it — including files exported from other tools or logged by your own scripts. Excel date columns are handled automatically.

The simplest way to get a clean result is to give Overtrace a file with a clear time column and numeric value columns. If a file doesn't load as expected, see Troubleshooting.

FAQ

Do I have to tell Overtrace which format my file is?

No. Overtrace recognizes the format automatically when you load the file — there's no format picker and no manual setup.

What is a 'digital signal' in Overtrace?

A digital signal is an on/off or state channel (rather than a continuous number). Overtrace shows these as event flags on the chart, and you can toggle them all with the Digital flags switch.

Does Overtrace handle Excel date columns?

Yes. Excel date values are recognized and shown as real timestamps automatically.
