Licensing: Starter, Pro, and Pro Perpetual

Overtrace sells three things: Starter, Pro, and Pro Perpetual. Everything runs in your browser either way — a license changes what the app will let you load and which analysis tools are unlocked, never where your data goes. This page is the detailed version of the pricing page.

Demo mode (no license)

Without a license the app loads two built-in sample modules so you can use the tools on realistic telemetry. Loading your own logs is locked until you buy — the upload button shows a padlock.

The 24-hour trial pass

A trial pass is full Pro access for 24 hours, not a limited version. Unlimited modules and channels, no file-size caps, every format, and every Pro analysis tool — so what you try is exactly what a Pro license gives you. It takes an email address, no card. When the pass expires the app returns to demo mode until you buy.

Starter — $12/month or $120/year

For a single tech looking at one shift at a time. Starter loads your real logs, with size and breadth caps rather than feature lockouts on the basics.

Not included in Starter: channel locks, per-channel offset and scaling, multiline tags and editable drawings, capture export, exporting .otsession.json files, and paired synchronized windows.

Pro — $29/month or $290/year

For consultants and analysts doing real comparative work across several modules at once.

Pro Perpetual — $899 one-time

Every Pro feature, bought outright. No subscription, no renewal, and no expiring access. All v1.x updates are included at no extra cost; a future v2.x major release is a separate paid upgrade.

What counts against the Starter limits

Hitting a Starter cap never loses work already on the chart — the app declines the new module or channel and tells you which limit you reached.

FAQ

What is the difference between Starter and Pro in Overtrace?

Starter loads up to 2 modules with up to 10 plotted analog channels, 10 MB per module and 20 MB per chart, and covers the core cursor, measurement and alignment tools. Pro removes every one of those limits and adds channel locks, offset & scaling, multiline tags and drawings, capture export, session export, and paired synced windows.

Does Starter support all datalog formats?

Yes. Every supported format — Emit, Excel, Caterpillar, Waukesha, and COMTRADE — works on Starter. The Starter limits are on how many modules and channels you can have on the chart and how large the files are, not on which formats parse.

Do digital event flags count toward the 10-channel Starter limit?

No. Only simultaneously-plotted analog channels count against the limit of 10. Digital and boolean event flags are unlimited on every plan.

What does Pro Perpetual include for $899?

Every Pro feature permanently, with all v1.x updates included and no subscription. A future v2.x major release would be a separate paid upgrade.

What does the 24-hour trial pass include?

Full Pro access for 24 hours — unlimited modules and plotted channels, no file-size caps, every supported format, and every Pro analysis tool. It is not a reduced tier: you are trying the top plan. No card is required, and the app returns to demo mode when the pass expires.

Can I open a Pro session file on a Starter license?

Yes, as a read-only preview. Importing sessions works on every plan; exporting .otsession.json files is a Pro feature.

What happens to my access if I cancel?

Billing stops and your license stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. After that the app falls back to demo mode with the built-in sample data — your own files are never held hostage, since nothing was ever uploaded.
